Saratoga Springs Professional Fire Fighters Association is an affiliate of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF Local 343) and a member of the New York State Professional Fire Fighters Association (NYSPFFA).

The union represents 76 members including fire fighters; lieutenants; and captains serving in the Saratoga Springs Fire Department. The men and women of the department serve on four rotating shifts. Each shift is 24-hours long.

The Department operates presently at two locations, Station 1 (60 Lake Avenue) and Station 2 (166 West Avenue). Station 3 (Henning Road and Fifth Avenue) is under construction and anticipated to be operational in Fall 2023.

When the third station is completed, each shift will be composed four fire fighters on three Advanced Life Support (ALS) engines. 

Local 343 members provide round-the-clock fire, rescue and emergency medical protection to the residents, business, visitors thorough the City of Saratoga Springs. During 2022, we responded to 6,314 emergency calls. And, we are on a pace to exceed that demand in 2023.

Board
The union is led by an executive elected by the membership to two-year terms. The current officers are:

Joe Brimhall

President

Joe has served on the union executive board since 2021. Brimhall is a 20-year veteran of the Saratoga Springs Fire Department (SSFD).

Zak Lawlor

Vice President

Zak has served on the union’s executive board since 2021. Lawlor is a seven-year veteran of the SSFD.

Jeff Van Alstyne

Secretary

Jeff has served on the union’s executive board since 2021. Van Alstyne is an eight-year veteran of the SSFD.

John Marra

Treasurer

John is serving in his first term on the union’s executive board since 2023. Marra is a nine-year veteran of the SSFD.
